What Is Fat Smash Diet?

The Fat Smash Diet is a plan that celebrities followed in a competition to lose weight on the VH1 hit show Celebrity Fit Club. Now, the program's diet doctor, Ian K. Smith, M.D., has developed a plan for anyone who wants to lose weight. The Fat Smash Diet is not meant to be a quick fix, but instead a lifestyle approach focused on eating healthful, filling foods, and getting lots of exercise. Smith offers an easy-to-follow, low-calorie diet plan, including long lists of foods to enjoy (and those to avoid), plus more than 50 recipes and tips to help dieters change unhealthy behaviors. Smith claims this will be the last diet you'll ever need, regardless of whether you want to lose 10 pounds or 200 pounds. "On average, most people lose 6-8 pounds in the first phase, and then it slows down to a few pounds a week in the other phases as you increase calories," he says.

Smith’s diet book guides you through four phases, each of which comes with lists of permissible and prohibited foods. During the initial detox phase, you eat mostly fruits and vegetables. Once dieters reach the lifetime temple phase, Smith claims they will have constructed a routine of good habits that will last a lifetime. The Fat Smash Diet is a healthy diet that lets you lose weight, but is a diet that you can safely continue over a long period of time.

When you start the program, you will be looking at a 90 day period in which you must follow the Fat Smash Diet. That initial period is divided up into 4 phases:

1.  Phase I is the detox phase and it is nine days long. Your food limited to fruits and vegetables. Your beverages are confined to water and herbal tea to flush your body. You have to eat four to five meals, whether you're hungry or not. Skipping meals is not allowed at any phase. In this phase of the Fat Smash Diet, food choices should be eaten raw, grilled or steamed. Fats are limited to a maximum of 3 tablespoons, with 1 to 2 teaspoons olive oil per day.

You will eat mostly fruits and vegetables to cleanse your body, (except white potatoes or avocado), chickpeas, lentils, tofu, and legumes/beans. It also permits limited amounts of brown rice; 2 cups of low-fat, skim or soy milk; oatmeal; low-fat yogurt; 4egg whites. These are the food that you can eat for nine days.

2.  Phase II is the foundation phase is an introducing additional foods period and it’ll last three weeks. You follow the same rule as the first nine days, but now you can reintroduce lean meats to your body. You still have to maintain eat 4-5 times per day with small portion.

You can add chicken, turkey, fish, but no pork. Foods allowed in limited quantities in this phase include avocado, lean meats, seafood, one whole egg, 1 ounce of cheese, a variety of whole-grain cereals or unsweetened cereal, granulated sugar, butter, fat-free mayo, a ten ounce cup of coffee, fruit juice, 2 cans of diet soda, lemonade, and club soda.

3.  Phase III of the Fat Smash Diet is the construction phase and that will last four weeks. It’s a period embodying the principles of the first 2 weeks. You are still eating the same things you had in phase I and II, but now you will reintroduce whole wheat pasta and whole grain bread. You can also increase protein, add mayonnaise, peanut butter, 2 whole eggs, low fat milk, low fat/fat free cheese, freshly squeeze juice, and one dessert per day.

4.  Phase IV is the temple phase that lasts for a lifetime. In this phase you still have follow phase I, II and III. But you can add some white starches, wine, beer, pizza, and potatoes. But don’t forget to always exercise, control your eat portion, not skipping meals, eat in a small portion (4-5 portions per day).

How Is Fat Smash Diet Works?

Fat Smash Diet is perfect to someone who doesn’t like to exercise and love to eat junk food. This diet won’t be such a great influence for people who already live a healthy life and exercise regularly. But it will help people to eat more low-calorie, nutrient dense foods, exercise more and get rid of unhealthy habits. Diets that are high in fruits, vegetables, and greens can lower your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer.

Fat smash diet teaches dieters principles of eating healthy. Each phase comes with a list of allowed and forbidden foods. Indulgences such as beer, wine, sweets, and coffee are kept to a minimum. At the end of the 90-day period, you should be making better food choices, eating fewer calories, exercising regularly, and losing weight.  You’ll also learn to make a better choice of snack, instead eat cookies, why don’t you try fruits. It’s healthy and has fewer calories.

Exercise is a must! It’s great for our blood vessels, hearts, lungs, and mind. You can join the gym or just start exercising at home, doing some aerobic or jogging. You can combine aerobic exercise with strength training. It will be a good combination to lose your weight. You don’t have to work out for 2 hours in the gym. And then you come home with no more left energy and very exhausted. That’s not right and not helps you to lose weight. What you need is a regular physical activity that will keep your heart rate up and your lungs working. This will help you to tone your muscles and keeping your joints active to help prevent certain illnesses like the dreaded arthritis.

If you hit a plateau, then you can go back from phase 1, restart your program and then after you past your plateau, you can go back to the program where you left off.

Is Fat Smash Diet Healthy?

Yes, this is a healthy diet. It’s all about having a regular exercise, eating lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains, avoiding junk food, and learns to make a better choice of food. Overall, I think that this diet will teach us to make the right choice of food. Not just to satisfy our hunger but also to boost our energy and health your body.
